Kidnapped


kidnapped One of the main characters of the “Kidnapped” is our “James Stewart” of the Stewart Hotel. “Kidnapped” has become a classic of historical romance the world over and is justly famous as a novel of travel and adventure in the Scottish Landscape. This book talks about Duror of Appin and please come to visit us for the Glorious Past.

Hotel Refurbishment

Finished in 2009, the hotel has been totally refurbished at a cost of £195,373.40. Added 12-new bedrooms, new office,reception, new carpets and paints to all the bedrooms also totally re-done the garden which is almost 4.5 acres and installed 9-crystal chandeliers. The hotel has 42-en suite bedrooms. All bedrooms have bath and WC and 25 bedrooms have loch view rooms. People from Bird watchers to Golfers, Mountain walkers, business travelers, romantic gateway, and family travel are welcome.

Our History

Historically the family appears to be descended from an ancient family who were senechals of Dol in Brittany. They acquired lands in England after the Norman Conquest and moved to Scotland when David I ascended to the throne of Scotland. The family was granted extensive estates in Renfrewshire and East Lothian and the office of High Steward was made hereditary in the family...
